WWE RAW review: Holly returns, Hornswoggle welcomed
Tuesday, September 25th, 2007The return of a superstar, surrender ceremony, Hornswoggle gets a date, and a suspension. Yes, folks this all happened in one night. I’m The Eagle, and this is your weekly WWE RAW review: The show opened with Jonathon Coachman in the ring surrounded with by security. He announced that due to Randy Orton’s action last week he was suspended indefinitely. After going on about people respecting him and others in authority Vince McMahon came to the ring. He said that tonight in the cage match Carlito would have a partner against Triple H and it would be him. My first thought is — he is crazy. The last time we seen him in a cage he had a sledge hammer busted over his head . . . From there, Mr. McMahon asked Hornswoggle to come out so he could apologize to him. Vince says it was a test last week to see if Hornswoggle really loved him. He didn’t want him to be like his other children and only want the money. Then Vince dropped the bomb shell and as a reward for passing the test the little Irishman would have a date. Out comes Melina. Kind of a funny spot with Hornswoggle and Melina rolling around in the ring after he tackled her. Just as Coachman was making his case for being the permanent general manager of WWE RAW John Cena’s music hits. He waste no time and starts throwing chairs into the ring. Due to his actions Mr. McMahon orders a surrender ceremony. This means that Coach will decide at the end of the night whether to strip Cena of the WWE World Championship. Now we finally have our first match. Isn’t that why we watch the show? First Cody Rhodes come to the ring. It then announced that someone was making their return to WWE RAW and then Hardcore Holly comes to the ring. Wasn’t he drafted to SmackDown? Holly grabbed the mic and told Rhodes that if he wanted his respect he would have to earn it. The Alabama Slam for the pin ended all chances of Rhodes earning Holly’s respect . . . Orton did have a message for Cena via satellite. He called the WWE World Champion and accused him of getting DQed on purpose at the Unforgiven PPV. It was actually one of the best promos I have seen in a long time. For the ones that don’t already know . . . I will end all speculation here . . . Orton was not suspended for violating the wellness policy or anything else. He got married this week and was granted the week off. Finally, another match with Ron Simmons and Santino Marella. Looks like Simmons hasn’t lost a beat. Marella didn’t look terrible but he seems to have lost a step. Heck he didn’t even finish the match. Just when it looked like Simmons was gonna get the pin Marella left with Maria and got DQed.
Vince McMahon did keep his promise by beating The Game in a cage match. It was actually the chairman who escaped the cage and got the victory. Carlito paid the price for victory as Triple H hit the pedigree twice on a steel chair with his head. I am really hoping this is not WWE’s way of writing off Carlito . . . Paul London and Brian Kendrick locked up a shot at the tag team gold by defeating the champs, Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch in a non title match. After the match the Highlanders viciously gave the contenders a beat down. Finally they are doing something with the Highlanders . . . In one of the best mixed tag matches I have seen Jeff Hardy and Candice Michelle took on Shelton Benjamin and Beth Phoenix. It was a very exciting match with both sides getting some good shots in . . . Coachman’s attempt to get Cena to beg to keep the WWE title backfired. As security was about to take the title Lillian announced that by order of “Mr McMahon” Cena would not be stripped of the title and that the main event tonight would be Cena vs Coachman in a tables match. The champ made quick work of the acting GM. Afterwards Cena looked up the ramp and there was Hornswoggle. Cena thanked “Mr McMahon”.
