WrestleWombat #1: No Way Out picks

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

The Eagle would like to welcome another writer to the Wrestlersramblings team…. folks I present you WrestleWombat. His first column is his No Way Out picks. Enough with the introduction… heres his picks……
No Way Out always to me was just a way of tying up loose ends before Wrestlemania. This year it’s a different picture, No Way Out is paving the way for the spectacle this year. With two crucial matches setting the main events and a night that fingers crossed will set the standard for the rest of the year ahead. So my predictions and stuff for No Way Out this weekend.

Ric Flair and David RobinsonRic Flair vs. Mr Kennedy
Well let’s be honest from the start shall we. There is no way that Flair will go down in history losing to Mr Kennedy at No Way Out. If anything the Nature Boy is set for a loss at Wrestlemania, against an opponent in my mind (and probably Vince’s) is the only person who could beat Ric Flair. I can’t see Kennedy winning this, I think we’ll be looking to see another fun filling starter match for the evening.
Winner: by some dastardly means Ric Flair

ECW Championship- Chavo vs. Punk
Again this match is a forgone conclusion. Only two people have won a major championship at No Way OutThe Rock and Eddie Guerrero. Even though the ECW Championship is not a major title, it would seem a bit awkward to change the title just before Wrestlemania especially with all this heat surrounding the two of them. I can’t see a clean finish here either. The deck is stacked against CM Punk and Chavo is only going to use that against Punk.

COPYRIGHT WrestlersRamblings.com and Mr. Mal Occhio ALL RIGHTS RESERVED WWE Superstar Chavo Guerrero I would expect interference on CM Punk towards the end of the match probably from as soon as he gets Chavo up from the GTS. The Major Brothers come out and pull the ref out of the ring just before the three count, and start pounding on CM Punk. Would it be too much to expect Rey Mysterio to come out and clean house? I can’t think of anyone who would come to Punk’s aid that has heat with the Guerrero’s, or at least some logical connection.
Winner: Chavo by DQ.

Elimination Chamber Matches
Smackdown/ECW:
Batista vs. Khali vs. Finlay vs. M.V.P. vs. Big Daddy V vs. The Undertaker

This is a real mismatch of competitors at least with the RAW chamber you can link storylines. Okay Undertaker and Batista but that is basically it, and from that they are the only two possible winners… well winners that would make sense in a main event. But I would give all the momentum to Batista just for the fact he’s been in the chamber before and having Undertaker win the championship again this year would receive “BORING” chants.
Undertaker’s future in the WWE is bringing over the future careers of the new WWE superstars, basically Flair’s old job in the NWA. Orton’s feud with Undertaker mounted up some losses but ultimately catapulted him back into that main event status. Undertaker will be around only to bring over those who are going to make it in the future.
I’m putting Batista over as the winner, because there is nothing else you can really do with him other than a main event at Wrestlemania. His roll this year has been phenomenal to be honest, not as good as Punk’s but I would put it in the top three.
Winner: Batista

RAW:
Umaga vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho vs. JBL vs. Jeff Hardy vs. HHH

Okay the best way to find a winner here would be to work on the principle of the match and eliminate people. There is no way Jeff will get another title shot in the near future, though I would love to see the current Hardy as WWE Champion just because he’s so much better than Cena.
Jericho and JBL will be facing each other at Wrestlemania, this fued is so not finished and the Elimination Chamber is only going to add fuel to that fire. Umaga will never headline Wrestlemania and probably has as much chance at a WWE Champioship shot as Hornswoggle. Which leaves us with Shawn Michaels and HHH… and this is where I bring out the internet rumors which are slating HHH vs. Batista vs. Orton for the WWE Championship as a main event.
Which I would love to see evolve on television. Also for the same reason that I wouldn’t pick Undertaker, HBK in the main event again just wouldn’t work. And I think HHH has an opportunity to put over Batista and Orton better than anyone.
Winner: HHH

COPYRIGHT WrestlersRamblings.com and Mr. Mal Occhio ALL RIGHTS RESERVED WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio World Heavyweight Championship:
Edge vs. Mysterio
Working on the retain policy, I still think Edge will retain and this time I think the finish will be a little dirtier than the finish at the Royal Rumble. A lot of people called the Edge/Mysterio match an unclean finish, but I think without any sign of a weapon being used it was a pretty clean finish. I can’t see Rey winning the title he has no one to really face him from the chamber.
Mysterio I also think has a future in the ECW Title picture; it’s certainly a belt that looks better around his waist than the World HEAVYWEIGHT Title. Mysterio vs. Chavo at Wrestlemania would really set the standard for ECW and give them something to watch, rather than last years sloppy attempt at a faction feud.
Winner: Edge

WWE Heavyweight Championship
Randy Orton vs. John Cena

Just to set the standard, I hate John Cena in every way – as a character and a wrestler. I don’t think Cena deserves this match, I hope Randy proves in this match he is every bit of a bad ass that he really is. Orton needs to squash Cena, in a way that is mind blowing. Like the reversal of the crossface at Summerslam into the RKO, like the mid air RKO to Carlito… just a momentum shifter. Sudden and with emphasis… in my opinion Orton is a perfect champion for RAW… manipulative and easy to hate, there is nothing funny about Orton, he has no soul when in character.
Again I’m drawing on the fact the WWE is more likely to have people retain titles, than drop a champion. Something TNA has been doing a bit too much.
Winner: Randy Orton.

I’ll cement some more of this in my next column: Wrestlemania 24 and the road ahead
