Bye-bye Boogeyman: gimmicky grappler released by WWE

Wrestlers Ramblings.com wrestling news

Outside the gleam of camera lights, far-removed from the scripts and angles, Mr. Mal cannot help but wonder . . . when Vince McMahon releases someone from World Wrestling Entertainment, does he really do the, “You’re FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRED! thang that is still pretty darn-entertaining, no matter how many times we see it? I guess only Vinnie Mac and Charles Wright know for sure today, as the wrestler better known as The Boogeyman has been terminated from his contract. Apparently, according to PWInsider, Wright – who had been idled since WrestleMania XXII with what they report as leg injuries (although Mr. Mal swears it was a torn bicep) – has been less-than enthusiastic with his rehab, failing to even check-in with doctors with any regularity. Even when warned about it, the report continues, Wright continued to be lax in this regard – and now finds himself on the unemployment line as a result.

All in all, a real shame for the WWE. Not only does this cost them a wrestler who was way-over with fans of the Smackdown! brand – one also in dire need of an infusion of fresh faces – but also cost them the services of one James. E. Cornette, whose meltdown in Ohio Valley Wrestling during the wrestler’s training (where Cornette slapped-around a wrestler who laughed at the Boogeyman, in-ring). Now plying his trade in Total Non-Stop Wrestling, Cornette is an old pro that should have a better standing with the major league of professional wrestling, the WWE. Sure, Cornette was victim of his demise, but now the wrestler Cornette was protecting isn’t even with the company anymore. That’s what you call a lose-lose for the WWE. Wright, no stranger to controversy as he was kicked-off a season of Tough Enough after lying about his age, will be hard-pressed to ever receive the type of push he was receiving in the WWE again. He should have counted himself fortunate, and did everything he could to get back in-shape and back in the ring as soon as possible. Instead, reflective of someone who paid virtually no dues and received a monster push that apparently went to his head (yes, Mr. Mal said “monster push – pun-intended) and has now cost himself a slot with the most well-known wrestling company in the world. Some guys just don’t get it, do they?

And speaking of guys who just don’t get it . . . word has it Randy Orton recently failed a drug test with the WWE. Sigh. In an obvious sign of favoritism, however, the company similarly announced they are simply going to fine the wrestler, allowing him to work in the process. According to the “Wellness Program that was implemented following the death of Eddie Guerrero, positive drug tests or those found with drugs in their possession are supposed to be subject to a 30-day suspension – as was Rob Van Dam, who also was forced to relinquish both his ECW and WWE World Title on successive days in the process. A stiff price to pay, no doubt. One can only wonder why the WWE continually protects the prima donna Orton, already suspended in the past for backstage incidents and reportedly no better now than he ever was. Get real, WWE. Stick to a policy if you wish it to hold any merit with fans and observers. And quit letting Orton makes fools of you. No wrestler is worth that.

Hey Mr. Mal! Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t Charles Wright the similarly themed Papa Shango/Kama Mustafa/Godfather/Goodfather? I think Boogey’s actual name was Marty or Mark Wright. If he had been a better performer I might actually be bothered to Google it…;)

  2. Mister Mal Occhio Says:

And so it is, Marty, I mean! Talk about a Freudian slip. Mr. Mal still pines for the return of Papa Shango . . .

As always - great to see ya ’round here AndreFan. Thanks for the heads-up!

so when will he be back

  4. Mr. Mal Occhio Says:

Boogeyman — since this article was written — was brought back to the WWE. Now, however, they reportedly have nothing for him creatively. This is another way of saying they have no idea what to do with a wrestler whose best move is to eat a mouthful of worms.
