The Eagle’s WrestleMania 24 picks

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

COPYRIGHT WrestlersRamblings.com The Eagle column headshotWell the Granddaddy of them all is here… WrestleMania 24. The Eagle had to put some thought into this years picks. Without a doubt the match I am looking forward to the most is Ric Flair vs HBK. Well here it goes… The Eagle’s WrestleMania 24 picks.
BunnyMania Lumberjack Match
Master of Ceremonies: Snoop Dogg

Maria & Ashley Massaro vs. WWE Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix & Melina
Shouldn’t Beth Phoenix be defending her title here? The Eagle has always believed that EVERY title should be defended at WrestleMania but that’s another column for another day. Considering that Maria is getting pushed because of PlayBoy I think she will go over here.
The Eagle’s Pick: Maria and Ashley Massaro
Belfast Brawl

JBL vs. Finlay
So after all the build up for the McMahon son storyline this is what we got. JBL has been aggressive than ever lately. His feud with Chris Jericho proved that JBL is not a crybaby heel. But the fact remains that he is on Finley’s turf at WrestleMania 24. Also look for Hornswoggle to get involved somehow.
The Eagles Pick: Finley

batista.jpgRaw vs. Smackdown: Which is the superior brand in WWE?
Umaga (Raw) vs. Batista (Smackdown)
Well it seems that SmackDown usually gets the bad end of this brand split. Most of the big players are on Raw and lets face it… Raw gets more attention. At one point when Umaga was really being built as a monster this would have been one heck of a match. But Umaga is a dominate force but not the monster anymore. I do see “The Animal” going over in this one. This may lead to a switch for Umaga.
The Eagle’s Pick: Batista
24-Man Battle Royal
Winner earns shot at ECW Title following the match

This is hard to pick. You have a few guys who are capable of winning….Kane and Jamie Noble. I am disappointed that this wont be shown on TV. I am hoping that whoever comes out of this match is a worthy contender. The Eagle is going to truly guess on this one (which is hard to do when it comes to WWE).
The Eagle’s Pick: Kane
Chavo Guerrero vs Winner of Battle Royal

I am hoping that my pick is right and Chavo drops the title. ECW needs to be more interesting and the ECW Title needs to be more important. Having someone win like  Kane will spice things up.
The Eagle’s Pick: Winner of the Battle Royal

Ric Flair and David RobinsonCareer Threatening Match
Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels
Now I wont lie…. This match is going to be one of the most emotional matches of all time. The Eagle isn’t going to make it through the Hall of Fame Ceremony with dry eyes. I am hoping that they put this match towards the end of the card. I think they could put it last and it wouldn’t take anything away from the title matches. I am glad to see Flair face HBK in what will most likely be his last match. They will bring out the best in each other and steal the show.
The Eagle’s Pick: Shawn Michaels
Floyd “Money” Mayweather vs. The Big Show

Now The Eagle has read several peoples takes on this. A majority of them are picking Big Show to go over and they maybe right. The fact that this is a “No Rules” match definitely changes things. I think that something will come out of this match. Possibly a new feud for Show. I have heard of a possible confrontation with 50 Cents also. I don’t see WWE letting a boxer come in and beat one of their own. We know that they are paying Mayweather 2 million dollars to appear so that’s worse getting whooped by the Big Show.
The Eagle’s Pick: Big Show
“Money in the Bank” Ladder Match
(Winner earns a shot at a WWE World Title)

WWE Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho vs. Mr. Kennedy vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Carlito vs. WWE U.S. Champion MVP vs. CM Punk vs. WWE Tag Team Champion John Morrison
This is another one that is hard to pick. MVP and CM Punk have a good chance of walking out of WrestleMania 24 with the briefcase. Kennedy is still in the dog house and I don’t see him being a repeat winner. The Eagle thinks that Jeff Hardy was the chosen one to win this before he got suspended and the one that took his place also took his title.
The Eagle’s Pick: Chris Jericho

COPYRIGHT WrestlersRamblings.com WWE Superstar The UndertakerWorld Heavyweight Championship Match
Edge vs. The Undertaker
This is The Eagle’s second favorite match on the card behind Flair vs HBK. These two bring out the best in each other. Yes, it’s a predictable match but still one that will be fun to watch.
The Eagle’s Pick; The Undertaker
WWE Championship - Triple Threat Match
Randy Orton  vs. Triple H vs. John Cena
I am hoping that Orton stays in the title picture after this match. His character has matured and he’s done good as the WWE Champ. The one good thing is that Cena wont be getting the title.
The Eagle’s Pick: Triple H
Not a bad card on paper. I am looking forward to watching it live. Lets just hope it lives up to the hype.

Wrestlersramblings Greatest WrestleMania Moments

Friday, March 28th, 2008

cena-title-belt-b.jpgI have been asked to write about my favorite Wrestlemania moment.  This is a very hard decision for me.  There have been so many great moments, from Hogan slamming Andre to Austin winning the WWE Title for the first time against Shawn Michaels. I thought of all these great moments and settled on WrestleMania 6 when the “Immortal” Hulk Hogan took on the Ultimate Warrior.  It was the Intercontinental Champion vs. WWE Champion.  Title for Title.  It was the first time in history that two babyfaces headlined Wrestlemania and it was the first time two titles were on the line.  Hulk Hogan was the main draw for the WWE for 5 years and here came this wild, colorful, almost superhero-like character in the Ultimate Warrior to try to push him off his mountain.  You had everything you could ever want in this match.  The crowd was on hot; you had the two biggest superstars go at it, for two of the most honored titles in history.  As a kid, this was so cool.  My heart skipped a few beats when Hogan went for the Leg Drop and the Warrior moved and went for the Warrior Splash for the win and the title.  This match was much better then any of the smart wrestling fans would have expected.  This propelled my enjoyment of wrestling to a whole new level.  That match caused me to become obsessed with wrestling. (For better or worst)
-Wrestling Love

Logo for Across The PondWe all have our preferred Wrestlemania moments. What makes it such an amazing event is that at the end of each ‘Mania we are all left with that one defining moment we think about for an entire year! Whether it’s Hulk Hogan slamming Andre the Giant, or Edge winning the ‘Money in the Bank’, these moments irrevocably alter the business for the better or the worse, and that is what sets WWE’s Wrestlemania ahead of all the others shows out there! I’m sure the other writers will name a more ‘important’ event then I will. The fact of the matter is, my Wrestlemania memory isn’t that great history altering moment that I should have picked. My moment, my great Wrestlemania memory is a more recent match. A match that in my mind, helped reshape the career of a modern great. That match took place at Wrestlemania 22; Mick Foley vs. Edge in a hardcore match. I remember watching this match and thinking to myself, “wow, Edge really is a great wrestler”. I had been on the fence about his heel turn for quite some time, however it was after this match that I remembered why I at one time had considered myself an ‘Edge Head’. I’m lucky enough to have this match on DVD, and I have watched it several times since.  It really represents what ‘hardcore’ pro wrestling should have been. It told a story. Edge’s struggle to keep up with the ‘Hardcore Legend’ turned to glory after he realized he could take the abuse. He rose to the challenge and showed the world why he is the top star he has become! I will always believe this match epitomises both hardcore wrestling, and Edges rise to success!
-Hugo

COPYRIGHT WrestlersRamblings.com The Eagle column headshotWow there are many great moments. Hugo and WrestlingLove both mentioned the “Slam heard around the world” when Hogan slammed Andre to the mat. There also Austin vs HBK with Mike Tyson as the special guest referee. I would also put Hugo’s choice; Edge vs Mick Foley in my top 10 moments. But when it comes to what moment I remember the most after over 20 years as a fan I would have to agree with WrestlingLove. Hogan vs Warrior was one of the most anticipated WWE matches of all time. Two babyfaces going at it. I remember the build up…. Both Warrior and Hogan saving each other. It was one of the few times that true sportsmanship was shown in the ring. It was the passing of the torch. Before that moment I didn’t know that one man could hold two titles. And before anyone asked…. Yes The Eagle marked out for the Warrior and wanted him to topple the “Immortal” one.

Jeff Hardy drops the ball; suspended for 60 days

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

COPYRIGHT WrestlersRamblings.com The Eagle column headshotYesterday Sensational1 wrote a column talking about the misuse of the IC Title in the WWE. Last night on Monday Night Raw The Eagle thought someone in the WWE brass read her column and decided to follow the advice. It wasn’t until this morning that I realized the real reason Chris Jericho won the IC Title last night. As announced by WWE.com this morning Jeff Hardy has been suspended for 60 days for violating the WWE Wellness Policy. According the reports The Eagle has read Hardy met with Vince McMahon before Raw and was told to drop the title. Hardy has also been removed from the Money In The Bank match at WrestleMania 24.

COPYRIGHT WrestlersRambligs.com and Mr. Mal Occhio ALL RIGHTS RESERVED WWE Superstar Jeff HardyNeedless to say The Eagle is extremely disappointed in this situation and with Jeff Hardy. Some WWE Superstars have been quoted as saying “what an idiot”. I have to agree. Some reports are stating that this is NOT a steroid violation which lead others to assume that illegal drugs are involved. Of course WWE does not release what substance was found in a wrestlers system so we may never know……No matter whether its steroids or illegal drugs… Hardy dropped the ball. He was getting the biggest push of his career. He was favored to win the MITB match this year. Now, he will be home watching it kicking himself in the butt. I hope this is a wake up call for the Rainbow Hair Warrior considering this is his second offense and his next one will mean the ending of his WWE career.
