Old-School Sundays: no-fabe Rougeau-Dynamite Kid feud
Sunday, October 7th, 2007
Here’s one of the greatest things about the breaking of kayfabe, as any old-school pro wrestling fan can attest: ya get to here terrific behind-the-scenes stories like never before, and sometime, right from the horse’s mouth (so-to-speak). Welcome to this week’s edition of Old-School Sundays. Today, Mr. Mal is pleased to offer up some great shoot interviews with Canadian great Jacques Rougeau Jr., better known to many fans for this latter-day WWF character “The Mountie.” Make no mistake, however — this story is anything but a slice of cartoon World Wrestling Federation pie. This is a peek into the underside of the pro wrestling game, and the real-life feuds that sometime erupt within it. This one involves two WWF tag teams of the late 80s, the British Bulldogs (Dynamite Kid and the late Davey Boy Smith) and the Fabulous Rougeau Brothers, Jacques and Raymond of Montreal, PQ. Who sucker punched who first? Why did he do it? Who got the ultimate payback? Who lost their front teeth in the process? What team was absolved from blame from Vince McMahon? What team quietly left the WWF directly after? Listen to these great clips and find out. Something a little different that I’m sure you’ll enjoy, especially hearing from other pro wrestlers commenting on the feud as well, including Honky Tonk Man and Raven (first clip). Mr. Mal also dug up a great International Wrestling clip (Grand Prix Wrestling out of Montreal) especially for good pal, The Troublemaker, featuring Jacques and brother Armand versus the Road Warriors. We both grew up watching this unheralded territory, and to this day, still enjoy putting on our best Milt Avruskein imitation way too often with each other, Avruskin being the best play-by-play man no one remembers from yesteryear . . . Enjoy everyone. Thanks for visiting.
