WWE SmackDown Review: Something just ain’t right
Saturday, February 9th, 2008
Hey its your favorite bird… The Eagle with some quick thoughts from WWE’s Friday Night SmackDown. I am going to be honest I am not real happy with the show. Let me explain why…..The first segment which ended with all the participates for the SmackDown Elimination Chamber was very well played. This match is looking good with some great players involved. I do think that Batista needs to stop guaranteeing a victory because we all know how it’s going to end. This confrontation of all the players set up a main event match which was a decent match. It was pretty much an all out brawl but that was expected. I think it was a good idea to have the faces staring each other down symbolizing the fact that in The
Chamber it is every man for himself…….The Chuck Palumbo/Jamie Noble/Michelle McCool storyline is getting old. Yes, Noble can take it to anyone in the ring but he should be in a more meaningful feud. This segment lasted to long with Palumbo once again pounding Noble. I am all for a beat down but by the end of this I was yawning. It lasted to long.
Jesse and Festus are back and still looking like a top tag team on SmackDown. The Eagle wasn’t sure what to expect when Festus came to the ring with a paper bag on his head. Now, Jesse said that the doctors cured Festus. Well, if you count making him more powerful and dominate then he is right. At first The Eagle was hard on this tag team because of the time it took for them to debut. Now, I love to watch them and I think it’s just a matter of time before they hold the WWE Tag Team Titles…….One feud that The Eagle is diggin is Kane and Shelton Benjamin. There is no doubt that Benjamin is one of the most athletic guys in the WWE. It’s just his gimmicks that have held him back. Even his “Gold Standard” gimmick he is doing now has a lot to be desired but that doesn’t take away from his matches with Kane. I have always felt that Kane is the most underused talent in the
WWE. I am hoping that this feud will help him move up the ladder……I got one question… where were Curt Hawkins and Zach Ryder when the World’s Champion Edge was getting 619ed by Rey Mysterio? They came out for their match right after that. Granted I am a fan of the EdgeHeads because I think Edge can handle himself without them but it makes no sense to have them being called “EdgeHeads” or “Edges buddies” and not have them help The Champ out. I am becoming a little impressed with Hawkin’s and Ryder’s in ring work. They have taken to Jimmy Wang Yang and Shannon Moore for the last two weeks. Now if we could just get the Tag Champs to show up and defend the titles on SmackDown we might have a complete Tag Team Division……Now, on to the Edge/Rey Mysterio/ Vickie Guerrero confrontation. Was it just me or was Rey a little off? I don’t know if he is injured or if he was just having a bad night but he looked slow. This was another segment that made The Eagle yawn. The ending would have made more of a impact if the rest of it didn’t look so awkward. As far as “the big question” Edge is going to ask next week… don’t count on it being a marriage proposal. I think it will be something else but then again this is the WWE and anything is possible.
Results for Feb 8th SmackDown

The Eagle’s Grade C
Needs some improvement. The Eagle is not trying to bury SmackDown nor be completely negative but I call it like I see it. There was just something off about this weeks show. Some of the segment were to long and seem to drag out. The actual matches weren’t bad at all. I will comment on SmackDown leaving The CW Network. If WWE can’t land a deal with NBC then this is going to blow up in their face. The Eagle has no idea what Vince McMahon is thinking but this decision could hurt things in the long run. Let’s hope that something works out.
