WWE SmackDown Review: Guerrero Family Feud

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

COPYRIGHT WrestlersRamblings.com The Eagle column headshotOne week after the Beat The Clock Challenge SmackDown took a twist that The Eagle is not diggin. Sit back and chill and let me tell you all about it……The night started off with General Manager Vickie Guerrero introducing the new number 1 contender to the World’s Champion Edge… Rey Mysterio. After Rey thanked her for congratulating him on his win the former World’s Champion confronted her on her relationship with Edge. She reminded everyone that Eddie Guerrero was gone and that she had the right to move on with her life. Vickie even went as far as to say that she is still young enough to bare children and that Edge would be a great father figure. When Rey told her that Edge didn’t love her… the Rated R Superstar came to the ring to defend his new love. After he ran his mouth and COPYRIGHT WrestlersRamblings.com WWE Superstar Chavo Guerreroconfess his love for VickieChavo Guerrero came to the ring to say his peace. Chavo first reminded Rey that he was not a Guerrero and that this was none of his business. He then told Vickie that the Guerrero’s were disgusted with her behavior. She then reminded everyone that she is the General Manager of SmackDown and made a match between Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero.

The Eagle’s take on this…. Well I have made no secret of the fact that I don’t like this storyline. Not only do I think its stupid because Edge is talented enough to take on anyone on the roster but its also disrespectful to use Eddie’s name to further a storyline…..My wise Eagle grandfather used to say that “if it wasn’t for bad luck.. he wouldn’t have any luck at all”. Well that saying proves true for Chuck Palumbo. This week he lost for the 4th time against Jamie Noble. Michelle McCool came to the ring with Palumbo so The Eagle is assuming that they made up after last week. After he lost he backed Michelle into the corner. Noble appeared at the top of the ramp and Palumbo backed off enough for her to get away. The Eagle isn’t liking this storyline either. There something about women getting mistreated that The Eagle doesn’t find entertaining…..In 2 weeks MVP will face one of the greatest all time… The Nature Boy Ric Flair but this week he had his hands full with the former World’s Champion Batista. This wasn’t a bad match and the count out ending may have added to the feud. Batista didn’t want to win the match that way so he speared MVP to send a message to the United States Champion.….The Undertaker got screwed out of his shot at the Worlds Title last week by Matt Stryker. This week he would get his revenge when he took on Stryker and Mark Henry in a handicap match. Stryker and Henry couldn’t keep the Dead Man down. The Undertaker played it smart by knocking Mark Henry out of the ring and then nailing Stryker with the Tombstone PileDriver. After his win the battle wasn’t over for The Undertaker as Big Daddy V came to the ring to give him a beat down. When it was over Big V was laying on the outside and Henry had been choke slammed.

COPYRIGHT WrestlersRamblings.com and Mr. Mal Occhio ALL RIGHTS RESERVED WWE Superstar Rey MysterioHornswoggle traded in the wrestling tights this week to arm wrestle Ranjin SinghThe Great Khali’s translator. What Singh didn’t count on was Finley and Hornswoggle hooking up a electricity to his grip bar. The shock proved to be to much and Hornswoggle got the victory. After the contest Khali kicked Finley in the head … busting him open. The giant went after the little McMahon but a couple chair shots from Finley saved him once again. This was a semi entertaining segment. Not as annoying as most Hornswoggle spots. Before this contest there was a conversation between Vince McMahon and Finley and it hinted to an “agreement” between the two. We will see where this leads.….Kane took on Domino and squashed him. I have said it before… Kane is one of the best workers and should be used a lot better than he is. The Eagle is not sure what happened to Deuce and Domino either. At one point they were on their way to great things and now they are nothing but jobbers……In the main event Rey Mysterio took on Chavo Guerrero in an exciting match. The Eagle loves to watch these two go at it. I am not sure where they are going with Chavo. At the beginning he was feuding with the ECW Champion CM Punk and now he is involved in the Vickie/Edge/Rey feud. Maybe WWE doenst know what to do with him. Rey got the victory but paid the price for it with a beat down from The EdgeHeads and the World’s Champion Edge.

Results for Jan 11th
Jamie Noble def. Chuck Palumbo (Royal Rumble Qualifying Match)
Batista def. United States Champion MVP (Non-title, Count-out)
Undertaker def. Matt Striker & Mark Henry (Handicap Match)
Hornswoggle def. Ranjin Singh (Arm Wrestling Contest)
Kane def. Domino
Rey Mysterio def. Chavo Guerrero

The Eagles Grade B +

It was almost a decent show. The action was good but the whole Vickie and Edge thing on top of the Chuck Palumbo and Michelle McCool situation really hurt the show. Rey and Chavp put on a heck of a match as usual. The Hornswoggle segment was semi entertaining and it will be interesting to see what the McMahon/Finley “agreement” leads to.
