Cyber Sunday review: strong show sees Orton retain
The Eagle sat in the perch and watched the WWE PPV Cyber Sunday go into the history books last night. Did it go as planned? Well don’t just sit there read on and find out! Here is the brief recap of WWE Cyber Sunday:
Rey Mysterio defeated Finlay in a Stretcher Match
This was an awesome match with both men taking it to the limit. They even improvised at the end when the stretcher got caught on the ropes. Rey did pull of the victory in spectacular fashion. I don’t think its over between these two.
CM Punk defeated The Miz to retain the ECW Championship
What the heck went wrong here? Miz was voted in to challenge the ECW champion. I almost fell out of my perch when this was announced. I know he needs a push but this isn’t how to get it. A Morrison/Punk match would have stolen the show. This was not an awful match and it went longer than expected but it still shouldn’t have happened… not on a PPV.
The Eagle stated in the PPV picks that a Kennedy/ Hardy match would be a great addition to Cyber Sunday. Well, The Eagle’s wish came true. WWE did the WWE title voting early and since Shawn Michaels won it… Hardy and Kennedy got to battle in a non title match.
Mr. Kennedy defeated WWE Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy in a Non-Title Bonus Match
This was one of the better matches of the night but the ending was botched. There was a lot of back and forth action with Hardy gaining the upper hand. Hardy went for a drop kick off the top rope and missed… hit his head and Kennedy covered. Now I have no idea if Hardy was really hurt and they ended it quickly or they wanted to end it in a way where neither man looked weak. The Eagle says the ending was weak and Kennedy should have at least done a finishing move.
Kane defeated WWE U.S. Champion MVP via countout - MVP retains the U.S. Title
First let me say that Matt Hardy wanted to go and that this was a last minute decision. It was left up to the doctors and they decided to play it safe by not letting him compete. I am not happy with the selection of this match. There has to be someone else that could have taken on MVP for the US title. What about Morrison because of the merger? Again we have a weak ending. Kane knocked MVP out of the ring and he basically just laid there and got counted out.
Shawn Michaels defeated WWE Champion Randy Orton via DQ; Orton retains the WWE Title
Here is the match I was waiting for and boy I’m glad I didn’t miss it. These two aren’t done by a long shot. The ending of this proved it. I was shocked to see this match end in a DQ but it didn’t bother me that much. HBK had Orton beat that’s why he hit the low blow to get the DQ. HBK did get some revenge with some Sweet Chin Music and for the 4th time he left the legend killer laying.
Triple H defeated Umaga in a Street Fight Match
The match was great…. HHH didn’t run all over Umaga like some expected and the action was intense. My problem is with the timing. This is not a worlds title match or a title match of any kind…. Why is it the second to the last match then? Makes no sense. The Eagle thinks this discredits the WWE title.
Batista defeated The Undertaker to retain the World Heavyweight Championship with Steve Austin as the special guest referee
Besides the Orton/Michaels match this was the other match I was looking forward in seeing. I will say it again.. I am not a fan of Batista but when he gets in the ring with the Undertaker a different side of him comes out. This was another great match where you didn’t know how it was going to end. I take it by Batista winning they are letting him hold the title until Edge returns at Survivor Series.
The Eagles Grade B+
It was an above average PPV. The problems I have is the endings to some of the matches.. not the winners, the fact that Miz was a title contender, the placement of the HHH match. If not for that it would have been an A PPV for sure.
