EXCLUSIVE: WWE Smackdown/ECW Detroit coverage w/pics!
Yo, yo, yo — whaddup pro wrestling fans, Mr. Mal Occhio back wid cha with our EXCLUSIVE REPORT from the Tuesday night television taping for WWE Smackdown and ECW, live in Detroit, MI’s Joe Louis Arena. Mr. Mal and the usual gang of accomplices (Pimp Sugar, The Legendary Pizza Steve and The Troublemaker) were in the house as per usual, and — in addition to making some great new friends at the card — are pleased as punch to offer up a few of our EXCLUSIVE PRO WRESTLING PHOTOS you will only find right here at WrestlersRamblings.com!
As for a report, without giving away the spoilers from the Smackdown tapings (after all, the show runs on Friday, gang. Watch it fer yourself!) Mr. Mal and company were thrilled to see the “Shaman of Sexy” former ECW World Champion John Morrison (pictured, left) back in action, fresh off his WWE Wellness Plan suspension. The former Johnny Nitro looks as shredded as ever, and his match with C.M. Punk deserved a better pop than it got. To be honest, at a taping that runs close to four hours, the place was more than half-empty by the time these two titans of tomorrow squared off. Too bad for those who left. Punk and Morrison are two of the top talents in the game today, and seeing them work live was a definite highlight.
Other memorable events? Seeing Rey Mysterio is always a treat. Mr. Mal naturally has a thing for wrestlers in hoods, after all. Why, I believe I’d be thrown out of the pro wrestling fraternity if I didn’t root (and root hard) for Rey Rey, not that I need to be threatened in that fashion. Rey has been a favorite of mine for more than 10 years, and his continuation of his No Mercy PPV feud with Fit Finlay — live, five rows in front of me and the gang — was what I came to see (pictured, right). People should not take a man like Rey for granted. His knees have been put back together more time than I can count, and seeing him still tear it up inside that ring at his still high level is always worth the price of admission alone. This goes without saying that a veteran like Finlay is another gift to pro wrestling fans that too many take for granted. They truly don’t make’em like the tough Irishman anymore, and once he’s gone, you will be hard-pressed to the likes of him again. What a great throwback performer. That man could get heat in an igloo. Seriously.
Some other Smackdown smatterings and ECW etchings? Big Daddy V (pictured, below) is a absolute brute that deserves to be pushed. Mr. Mal officially became a fan of the big man tonight. He’s a flat-out beast that will be wearing gold sometime soon, whether that be in ECW — or even on RAW or Smackdown. Forget the fact that, “Oh yeah, that guy used to be Viscera and King Mabel“ and just watch this man demolish opponent after opponent. Classic, old-school monster heel that would have been at home in Mr. Fuji’s stable, back in the day.

People actually popped large for Jesse and Festus (pictured, below) in Detroit Tuesday night. Festus is a very large man, with very long arms suitable for his brawling-style and Jesse can work a little bit in the ring. Let’s face it though — the strength of this team is their comedy, and they deliver. Festus’ transformation from bell-to-bell is laugh-out-loud funny, and this team seemed to genuinely entertain everyone at the Joe.
Jesse and Festus start their routine sure to become a crowd favorite
Finally — and this one goes out to my PPV buddy, The Professional, who now, admittedly, is “Huge on Khali!” — Mr. Mal presents the largest man I have ever set the evil eye upon in a pro wrestling ring, or any other walk of life for that matter, The Great Khali — who doesn’t even look human he’s so big. Mr. Mal thinks he’s actually a Yeti. Unconfirmed, of course, but that’s this man’s opinion. He’s massive. What ’til ya see what he does to poor Jamie Noble this Friday. Oops. I guess I did spoil one thing for ya after all. Bad Mr. Mal.
Not actual size - The man, the myth, the monster - Great Khali
