FLASH! Report says two-hour TNA all-but-official
The pro wrestling television game looks like it will surely get a whole lot more interesting in the coming weeks. Multichannel News is reporting that Spike TV and Total Non-Stop Action (TNA) are close to finalizing the deal to solidify not only a two-hour TNA iMPACT! every Thursday evening, but also several live specials similar to that of the current UFC Fight Night Live events. In addition, the report further states that TNA is also holding talks with the Fox Network about a multi-network deal, which would include FX and another unnamed network. The deal — or deals — would no doubt be heralded as much-welcomed news to the majority of pro wrestling fans the world over, long-hungering for a more viable second option to the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) juggernaut. While still far and away the number one provider of what has become “Sports Entertainment” the WWE has also managed to lose more than half of the market share the industry experienced back in the late 90s. TNA’s different approach (with the six-sided ring, different stars and — for the most part — different in-ring style) is a good bet to catch-on with a greater audience with a two-hour show. But how much? That remains to be scene. In large, they are geared to a more wrestle-centric audience, and more specifically, less-likely to catch on with a more-mainstream audience, necessary for the industry — and TNA specifically — to truly grow. Nonetheless, Mr. Mal welcomes the possibility with evil eye wide-open. Bring it on, TNA. Let’s see what else you’ve got up your sleeve. If that simply means more WWE-retreads, good luck. If it means more stars like Samoa Joe? You may have something here . . .

TNA going 2 hours can help boost the company. I feel in order for them to compete with WWE they need to be different. The X Division title and men like Samoa Joe is what made them different. In my opinion they have treated Joe wrong. He should have the TNA title by now. I think most would agree. And the mere thought of TNA considering getting rid of the X Division title make me scream “WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?”
I have always felt that in order to compete in this business or boost ratings you must do something different. I’m not talking Pacman Jones different either. TNA needs to take the 2 hours.. and change things up. Use the X Division stars they have. But hey what do I know.. I’m just an Eagle who writes about this.
