FLASH! WWE releases King Booker, Queen Sharmell
You would had to have been blind (in both evil eyes) to not see this one coming, but even as it has, it still makes it difficult to stomach: the WWE has released King Booker and Queen Sharmell. Gone from WWE TV since the initial aftermath of the Signature Pharmacy scandal — Booker was rumored to have been suspended for 60 days at that time, following his alleged second offense against the WWE Wellness Plan — the King was said to be livid over the penalty, and immediately went home to Texas to consider his future options, after being refused to accompany the rest of the roster on a tour of South Africa (a tour on which he and Sharmell were reported to have a Zulu renewal of vows planned that had to be scrapped).
The owner of his own wrestling promotion and school, Booker (Michael Huffman) is said to be in very good shape financially as well as professionally in terms of options, and was said to be considering retirement for some time. His leaving the WWE — confirmed with this release, made public on WWE.com — will now certainly test that theory. Things looked bleak this week when it reported that Booker had removed the WWE logo and all references to his now-former employer from his website. Mr. Mal, on a personal note, will definitely miss the King’s antics. Never a huge Booker T fan per say, his Kingly guise, however, was played by Huffman at a genius comedic level and was easily the best thing he had ever done in his career — and that’s saying something considering all the success he had in WCW with Stevie Ray, as well his time as a singles competitor in WCW and the WWE. Best of luck to Booker in his now post-WWE career.
