Former WWE Superstar wants Benoit’s brain

Word from ESPN.com is that former WWE Superstar Christopher Nowinski – now a prominent authority in the world of concussions in sport after having written the book Head Games: Football’s Concussion Crisis – is among a group of researchers leading an effort to examine the brain of the late Chris Benoit. Procedures would then be undertaken to discover whether or not concussions sustained during his professional wrestling career (and the degeneration therein) could possibly explain a trigger that would have led to Benoit allegedly murdering his wife and child before committing suicide last week.

However, investigators are saying that the brain may be too-far beyond any state to be examined, as Benoit’s body was virtually “liquefied by the time authorities arrived on the scene. The body was found in sweltering 93-degree heat in Benoit’s home gym and further, was not discovered until more than one day after the assumed suicide. Regardless, Nowinski and crew are still hopeful enough can be salvaged to conduct the research. Past work into former NFL player Andre Water’s brain yielded results that showed him to have the brain equivalent to an 85-year-old man due to concussions that “severely worsened his neurological state.

Nowinski’s WWE career was short-lived due to concussions. He was a finalist the year eventually won by Maven Huffman, now also out of wrestling.
