Go see Nacho Libre - viva el máscara!

An open letter to the readers of WrestlersRamblings.com:

Now look, Mr. Mal has a confession to make. Just ‘cause I write these little posts for my faithful (and much-appreciated) pals of Mal, and – despite my bestest, craziest, corniest, heavily-gimmicked, pseudo-80s-Memphis WrestlersRamblings . . . the evil eye does not, in fact . . . see all. Movies and their quality therein - unseen - is beyond the power of even the evilest of eyes among us. But here goes a shill. Unsolicited. Uncomprised. Unpaid-for. And I don’t even know if its going to be a crackerjack – or an Outback Jack, dig? But I got to thinking . . . when is the next time I will actually get to promote a movie about a masked wrestler? And a luchador, at that? Exactly. So here goes: check out Jack Black’s new movie Nacho Libre. Black plays a man raised in a Mexican monastery in Oaxaca, now working there as a cook. He joins a local Lucha Libre tournament to save the holy place from financial ruin – under a hood, natch – and tries to turn his new career into an opportunity to save the beautiful Sister Encarnacion (Ana de la Reguera) and the young orphans that live there. It’s also directed by the same guy who did Napolean Dynamite. Go see it. Or at least rent it when it comes on DVD. The world needs more movies about Luchadors. Long live the mask. If it blows – drop me a line, Mal’ll give ya yer WrestlersRamblings membership fee back – guaranteed. 100%. Here’s a review of the film from the New York Times.

Keep on rambling . . .

Your pal, Mal.
