New RAW wrap-up with The Eagle takes flight

Every once in a while a friend would give me the advice of “you’re trying too hard, that’s why it’s not working. That is the same advice I would give Vince McMahon after watching tonight’s Raw. We know USA is getting on WWE’s case about the ratings but I think they looked desperate tonight. Don’t get me wrong, there were a lot of good things tonight. Let me give you the run down.
Mr. McMahon opened the show ordering all the superstars to the ring. He then proceeded to talk about Congress, the media, and his family. He said he would speak more later about those things. He then did something that surprised me. He ordered a Battle Royal to determine the new General Manager of Raw. I guess he wasn’t happy with Jonathon Coachman showing up late for the meeting. This makes sense since Coach recently signed a major contract with MSG NY. I’m assuming that this new position will cause him not to be available as much. William Regal pulls an Edge and wins the Battle Royal and is now the new GM of Raw. Considering the rivalry between Regal and Coach you can imagine his unhappiness when he was told he would be Regal’s executive assistant.
Next we see Snitsky take on Highlander Rory. I have no idea what they are doing with Snitsky but it’s a waste of time. He will never be over. Every week he comes out and squashes a jobber. No feud, no nothing. Of course Highlander Rory falls victim in another quick Snitsky match. The Highlanders are another sad story. Weren’t they in the tag title contention a few months ago?
We find out Mr. McMahon is being investigated by the IRS. I giggled when I seen IRS the man (Mike Rotundo) sitting in the background watching McMahon and Coach. Should be interesting in how they work him into the storyline.
We see Mickie James take on Jillian Hall. I wish they would do more with Jillian. She wins this impressive match and has a weird stare down with Lillian afterwards. She has the talent in the ring and can cut a promo. I think its time to let her go after the title.
Now, its time for Carlito’s Cabana. John Cena comes out as his guest and fakes Carlito out. I am glad to see them using Carlito. I don’t know how this will end up. Cena is feuding with Orton and Carlito, but after SummerSlam where does that leave Carlito? Maybe they will have Cena and Carlito feud until Triple H is ready to take the title off of Cena. Unless Cena loses it to Orton which I doubt. Regal makes an interesting decision due to Orton attacking Cena. He tells Carlito and Orton to decide who takes on Cena tonight. Of course after the commercial Carlito and Orton wisely decide that neither should but that Cena should face Umaga in a Champion vs Champion match.
Then McMahon does something that I think is a mistake. He takes a shot at the United States Congress. Personally I think this kind of thing should be left behind the scenes. If it was a simple investigation then I wouldn’t mind it to much but this is a serious situation. This investigation by two committees of Congress comes from a tragic event. He also states he wants to bring his family back together. This could be leading to another McMahon family feud. I think this would be great. They all take sides and have their own set of wrestlers fighting for them.
From there, for the second week in a row, King Booker and Jerry “The King Lawler go at it. This time the loser will crown the winner on next weeks Raw. Considering how long it’s been since Lawyer has wrestled regularly he can still get it done in the ring. It was a good match until the end. Of course the Queen is going to interfere. I figured King Booker would win this to build him up for his match against the returning Triple H, but the ending was weak. King Booker nailed a scissors kick to pin Lawler. I went back and watched this three times. Still looked liked a weak kick to me. I think they could have ended this in more a dramatic way. I am going to make a prediction for next week. Triple H has to appear on Raw before SummerSlam. At least I think so, but then again The Undertaker has done the same thing. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Triple H make an appearance next week during the crowning of the King.
I love to see Ken Kennedy cut a promo but tonight’s was lacking something. I can’t think of what it was . . . Ummm . . . I got it . . . words, content, and meaning. All he said was that Lashley and everyone would be hearing one thing . . . Kennedy, Kennedy, Kennedy, and he went on for like five minutes.
Next up? Folks its time for your favorite game show: The Dating Game hosted by your not so friendly GM of Raw, William Regal. At first I thought this was going to be a real stupid segment but actually it was pretty funny. It was weird to see Jim Duggan being silly and trying to get a date. I think turning Santino Marella heel was a great move. I don’t know how its going to turn out but it’s a better move than what they did at first. Umaga interrupts the segment right before Ron Simmons is about ready to knock Marella out.
Time for our main event. I think Umaga and Cena usually put on a great match but tonight’s match wasn’t one of their greatest. Orton and Carlito interfere just when Cena gets the edge and locks on the STFU. Regal once again makes a great decision and makes next week’s main event as Cena and Umaga vs Orton and Carlito. That should be an interesting match. I like the babyface turn of Umaga. I am hoping that WWE doesn’t mess it up by making him to soft.
In a move that I found interesting and even left me holding my breathe McMahon walks out to his white limo just like he did two months ago when he blew himself up. I was really waiting for the limo to explode again. This time Coach stops him and reads him the summons he received earlier in the night. According to the summons Mr. McMahon has another child. This should be interesting. I think Coach enjoyed telling McMahon that bad news.
Over all not a bad Raw. I still think it was evident that WWE was trying too hard with the Mr. McMahon angle. They have too many twists. You have the explosion, the changing of GM’s, rebuilding the family, the IRS, Congress, and now the illegitimate child. All this in one night, focused around one man. Don’t get me wrong, we know Mr. McMahon works the crowd and can draw ratings, but the WWE needs to focus more on wrestling and SummerSlam. Bring Triple H back right now if you have to. I think McMahon should be on TV and I am even for a McMahon family feud but I think tonight’s Raw took too many twist and turns that it lost the viewers attention. Tonight’s Raw needed more wrestling and less talking.
Well, that’s The Eagles’ Raw wrap up. Until next week . . . keep it real.
