Nine years and counting for the late Owen Hart

Unbelieveable, but it has already been nine years since the great Owen Hart died in a pre-match mishap inside the Kansas City Kemper Arena. Mr. Mal grew up watching Owen from his earliest matches in Calgary’s Stampede Wrestling and watched with great excitement as he progessed through the WWF (as the Blue Blazer) and eventually sans mask, prior to reviving the gimmick in parody form that, invevitably, led to his demise.

Owen was always “my wrestler” given that I watched him come up. Seeing him achieve success in the WWF was very much well-deserved, as he managed to outlast even his time wearing those ridiculous pantaloons drawers with Koko B. Ware as High Energy. Yeesh. Good as a face but even better as a smark aleck, chicken heel, Owen Hart was a  true pro’s pro.  The impact he made on Mr. Mal’s pro wrestling fandom will never be forgotten, nor will the man himself. Rest in peace, Owen, and God bless you and your family.
