Pipeline: Media fooled by McMahon death? Plus, Cena scrap?

pro wrestling newsPull a chair, pro wrestling fans, and sit a spell with Mr. Mal Occhio here at WrestlersRamblings.com. We have another great installment of Pro Wrestling Pipeline for ya, with all the latest rumblings and whispers from the world of Total Non-Stop Action and World Wrestling Entertainment. Sssshhh! Can ya hear’em? Put your ear a little closer. No . . . I said your EAR. That’s better isn’t it?

CENA AIRPORT RUMBLE: WWE champion John Cena made news on a couple of fronts recently, in particular one that could have been embarrassing both for the company, and the champ himself. Cena reported had a near-physical altercation in an airport with TNA’s Ron “The Truth Killings recently, with an alleged eye-to-eye stare-down ending in both men going their separate ways. Longtime fans may remember Killings for his brief WWE-tenure as K-Kwik, a rapping persona very similar to that which Cena adopted some years later. Killings and Cena have supposedly exchanged barbs since that time, leading to the bad blood. Reportedly, many believe a shoot between the two would have left “The Champ on the losing end, resulting in a huge P.R. nightmare for World Wrestling Entertainment and Vince McMahon (who, not surprisingly, was reportedly upset at the report). It is well-known that McMahon does not take kindly to those on his staff getting into real-life dust-ups, with “the late Mr. McMahon supposedly never having fully forgiven Batista following his tussle with King Booker some time back. Reportedly, it was only the influence of Dusty Rhodes that got the title strap back around Batista’s waist last year. In other Cena news, his new reality show “Fast Cars and Superstars has debuted on ABC’s Thursday nights at 8 p.m. The show features six half-hour episodes where six NASCAR drivers attempt to teach a dozen celebs how to drive really, really fast. It is Cena’s second go-round with reality TV, having appeared some time back on the show Manhunt (prior to his WWE time).

DUTT DOES GANDHI – In an interesting gimmick twist, TNA wrestler Sonjay Dutt has taken to renouncing violence and is now espousing a Gandhi-like persona Thursday nights on Spike TV. Reportedly, TNA brass wanted Dutt to even go further with the makeover – with a turban and jeweled-forehead – but Dutt balked, leading him to ask, rhetorically, “Do you want me to drive a cab, too? Nonetheless, TNA once again (following on the heels of the terrific “Black Machismo gimmick with Jay Lethal) that they are thinking outside of the box in their attempt to bring a freshness to their product. The WWE could take a few cues from this creative character writing.

IT’S WRESTLING, YOU IDIOT – Mr. Mal thinks it’s hilarious that several media outlets reportedly took Mr. McMahon’s “death as the real-deal Monday night, with several even tying it in with the legit demise of the great Owen Hart some time back. What a laugher. Get a grip, gang. And quit looking to report on wrestling only when you perceive something “bad has happened. For what it’s worth, the WWE must have been thrilled to pull the wool over anyone’s eyes. It will be interesting to see where they take this character’s “death now. Honestly, and this is rare, it’s one angle even Mr. Mal has never seen before. Well, except for the Big Bossman’s hanging by the Undertaker. But then again, if a jobber gets hung in the middle of the ring and no one gives a hoot, do they really die at all? Whoa. WAY too existential for this crowd, me thinks.

MORE REAL, LESS FAKE - And finally, flying in the face of the previous story, the WWE is reportedly not telling its referees finishes ahead of time as of late. This is being done to not only keep the refs on their toes but the talent as well, forcing them not to be lazy on kick-outs and what not. Vince McMahon reportedly wants his refs to be legitimate in appearance, similar to UFC refs — and not the comedy acts that they have degenerating into as of late. Company officials admit this attempt at more-realistic matches may take some getting used-to by fans (who may boo the occassional misstep as both sides get used to the new arrangment) but, in the end, a better product for all is the aim . . .
