Pipeline says another former pro wrestler found dead, more

pro wrestling newsWe start this week’s edition of the Pro Wrestling Pipeline with something you never hear about these days in connection with the sport: another death! Sad, but true. Mr. Mal wishes it wasn’t this way, but I only bring ya the news, gang. Mr. Mal doesn’t make it, dig?

KRONUS PASSES: Former ECW Tag Team champion John Kronus has reportedly been found dead. Believed to be only in his late 30’s, Kronus (real name George Caiazo) held the titles on three occassions with later-day WCW/WWE superstar Perry Saturn. Together, the team formed the duo known as The Eliminators. He was reportedly found dead in his apartment in New Hampshire on July 18th days after having knee surgery. Kronus was a big name in ECW back in the late 90s and also held the ECW Tag Titles with New Jack. He also appeared in the California hardcore promotion Xtreme Pro Wrestling All of us here at WrestlersRamblings.com  wish his surviving family our condolences.

WrestlersRamblings.com WWE Superstar William RegalTHAT’S COMMISSIONER REGAL, SUNSHINE – Finally, some news that does the heart of Mr. Mal some good: word has it that personal favorite William Regal may have the inside track to be the full-time general manager of RAW. Backstage brass like the way Regal can get an angle over with a mere facial expression, as well as the fact that he can still get in the ring – and work like hell. Mr. Mal is diggin’ Regal’s larger-than-normal flock of hair (it gives him even more pomposity, if that’s possible!) and, as always, even in putting someone over, he is always a treat to watch in the ring. A true pro’s pro and pro wrestling fan’s pro wrestler. If he is indeed named Commissioner, Regal’s first act of office should be to bring over fellow Brit Dave Taylor another old-school fav of Mr. Mal’s — as well as to promote OVW prospect (and former pirate) Paul Burchill. More British pro wrestling representatives on RAW, says Mal!

MASTERS TO BE PUSHED, AGAIN: Word has it musclehead Chris Masters – himself a short-term suspendee a while back for failing the WWE’s much-criticized Wellness Program – is once again back in the good graces of head honcho Vince McMahon and is in line for a push. Mr. Mal has to wonder where the rationale is in this, however. I have nothing against Masters as a worker (he ain’t bad, and there are far, far worse talent than he) but, in light of all the Benoit fallout, do you really want one of your company’s poster boys to one that failed previous drug tests, lost a great deal of size (so much so he was actually made fun of on RAW?) and now, somehow, has regained most of it? Odd booking. Talk about a lightning rod for more controversy. McMahon is also said to be high on Sandman these days as well.

AAA TRIPLEMANIA IN THE BOOKS – Mexican pro wrestling league AAA held their annual answer to WrestleMania last weekend, Triplemania XV, with former WWE Superstar Kenzo Suzuki losing his hair in the process. If you know anything about Lucha, it ain’t a big card unless someone loses their hair or their mask – this one had both! The card also featured former WWE Diva Lita performing with her band, The Luchagores. Other notables that appeared on the show included former WCW high-flyer Super Calo (the victim of the lost mask – he will now work under the name Jordy Stone); former DX/NWO member X-Pac; the ever-lovable Super Porky; former WWE/WCW star Juventud Guerrera; former WWE star Rikishi; former TNA star Ron Killings; former ECW/WWE Superstar Sabu; Cibernetico; La Parka Jr. and Latin Lover, amongst others assorted luchadors. The show is set to air in the U.S. on August 12 on Galavision.

WrestlersRamblings.com WWE Superstar SylvanSYLVAN REDUX – Lastly, former Smackdown Superstar Sylvan Grenier is once again working with the WWE, this time in a gimmick with diva Maryse. No word yet on how far this will go, but the WWE is obviously still high on the former La Resistance member. His last real push came amidst the WWE’s failed attempt to resurrect the career of 90s mainstay Tatanka, who was released. As for the future of Grenier? He can bump a bit and does convey a good natural arrogance as a heel. In the right gimmick, who knows? Most likely more mid-card bookings, but you never know if today’s WWE. Stay tuned. No word yet on former partner René Duprée (who, last heard, was suspended due to Wellness Policy violations) or any possible return. Grenier’s other former partner, Rob Conway, was given his walking papers from the WWE a few months back.
