Pipeline: TNA courts former WWE champ, roster cuts, more!

pro wrestling newsTime once again, pro wrestling fans, to settle our brains for a long winters nap. NO! Wait a minute?!? Mr. Mal had his ear up to the wrong pipe there for a moment . . . feeling’ woozy . . . very light-headed . . . ah, the pretty colors. . . Let’s get to this week’s edition of the Pro Wrestling Pipeline while we still can. Mr. Mal needs to go put in another Jimi Hendrix disk before this buzz wears off . . .

TNA TARGETS LESNER - Word has it that TNA Wrestling is currently in negotiations to bring former WWE champion Brock Lesner into the fold. With the two-hour slot all-but-assured with Spike TV, one has to wonder whether Lesner has any interest in again working full-time for a pro wrestling league. Sure, TNA’s schedule ain’t exactly WWE — but they’re growing, and have more events scheduled this year than ever before. The days of such a light workload may be coming to an end. Add in the fact that Lesner is on record as being completely happy hunting and fishing (and being out of the limelight, for the most part) and the odds are against him signing full-time. Then again, money talks. Mr. Mal can see this happening, but not for long-term.

TNA CUTS TALENT - Plenty of fat-trimming going on with TNA right now, with word out that several pro wrestlers has been let go: Jerry Lynn; Brother Runt; Matt Bentley; Doug Basham and Damaja have all been let out of their contracts. Reportedly, Lynn had requested his release due to a personal reason, and the possibility remains that some of the other talent may yet still work on a per-appearance basis. That being said, there is also some confusion over the future of Christie Hemme as well, given that she was told her services were not required at this latest set of TNA iMPACT! TV tapings. Stay tuned.

AND SPEAKING OF TNA TALENT, FORMER WWE-STYLE - Both Team 3-D and VKM are both expected to return to World Wrestling Entertainment once their respective contracts expire. Devon has allegedly told people he will go back regardless of what Brother Ray does, and as for the former Billy Gunn and Road Dogg? Word has it that they are simply biding time until they can walk out the door, unsuccessful in past attempts to be let out early in order to reform D-X.

X-DIVISION STAYING PUT - Putting to rest any talk of abandoning their popular X-Division, TNA brass has reportedly reassured talent that the division isn’t going anywhere, and will once again be given a chance to shine once the two-hour show is given the go-ahead. The report should come as welcome news to many of TNA’s hardcore fans, many of whom took a shine to the league on the very basis of the X-Division where talent such as Samoa Joe have shined.

D’LO BROWN BACK IN WWE TOWN - Word has it that former WWE Intercontinental/European champ D’Lo Brown worked a match at this week’s Smackdown tapings, quickly squashing an unnamed enhancement talent. No word yet as to whether or not he will be sticking around, but you have to think the WWE could do far worse than to add a competant worker like D’Lo to the roster. He can work both heel or face, and has decent charisma to boot. He was last seen in the WWE in February of 2003. He later competed with the upstart TNA before spending time with AJWP in Japan.

I think they made a mistake by releasing Jerry Lynn. The dude can get it done in the ring. If they would have used him right he could have gone places.
