Summerslam preview: WrestlersRamblings staff picks!
Me style is the bomb - wid da bomb — dee-dang-dee-dang diggie diggie! Oops. Wait a minute. That was another year’s Summerslam theme, right? Sorry. Mr. Mal is bit lost in the contemporary hip hop scene. I dig me my college radio, Sirius Left of Center, to be exact. Either that, or some true old school jazz, Miles and the like. Either way, I couldn’t tell ya what this year’s theme is. I DO know that Summerslam – regardless of the paid, promotional musical tie-in — looks to be a good card. And isn’t that why ya really dialed us up? Of course it is. Ya’ll want your pro wrestling fix. Mr. Mal can dig that. Here’s our picks:
Divas Battle Royal - Winner Earns Women’s Title Shot with Divas from Raw, ECW and Smackdown
THE EAGLE - My two favorites are in this, Mickie James and Beth Phoenix. Even though I’m not sure if Beth is ready for a title push, WWE will give it to her. PICK - Beth Phoenix
MR. MAL - Aren’t we all the winners here in such a match? Not to go Jerry Lawler here (if Mr. Mal did that, he’d be pining for a lingerie battle royal) but this is truly the way to go in such an event. No one feud is driving the division (to it’s credit, actually) and this is a chance to elevate another talent. I’m flying like The Eagle on this one. PICK - Beth Phoenix
Kane vs Finlay
THE EAGLE - I said this match might get added. Kane is getting ready to get a big push which is not a bad thing. They both need this match and a loss will hurt Kane more than Finlay. PICK -Kane
MR. MAL - How the hell does Kane job so much and still retain some measure of invincibility? That’s a mystery as deep as the McMahon-offspring search. Put over another wrestler, Kane. Time to make the donuts. PICK - Finlay
Rey Mysterio returns against Chavo Guerrero
THE EAGLE - I hope with everything that is going on Rey can be focused on wrestling. There is no way that Chavo is going to pull off a win and he if he does. I will be very surprised. PICK - Rey Mysterio
MR. MAL - A returning Rey ain’t gonna job first time out, but if they were smart, the WWE will work a way to rekindle this feud again. Chavo is no Eddie, but he’s not bad. This war deserves to go on. PICK - No contest
WWE Intercontinental Championship - Triple Threat- Umaga (c) vs. Mr. Kennedy vs. CarlitoTHE EAGLE - I would like to see Umaga hold onto it but that doesn’t make any sense. PICK -Kennedy
MR. MAL - The evil eye sees a Mr. Kennedy win as a lead-up to his announcement as the mystery son. McMahon’s offspring will be a champion. PICK - Mr. Kennedy
Triple H returns against King Booker
THE EAGLE - From what I hear some are torn over this match. They feel Triple H beating bwill hurt Booker, but I disagree. Either way it doesn’t matter – The Game isn’t coming back to lose. PICK - Triple H
MR. MAL - Book this: Mr. Mal rooting as hard as he has ever rooted for a wrestler in his life, this time for Booker T to win. It’s the best gimmick he’s ever had, and to have him lose it to the company son-in-law coming back from an injury would be unjust. HHH could make Booker T by lying down. But he won’t. PICK - HHH
ECW Championship Match - John Morrison defends against CM Punk
THE EAGLE - This is a tough match to call. I feel either could win this one. I think Punk deserves a run with the title. PICK -CM Punk
MR. MAL - For those of you not watching ECW, you’re missing the best feud in the WWE today. Well, that or MVP-Hardy, but that’s another story. PICK - John Morrison
World Heavyweight Championship Match -The Great Khali defends against Batista
THE EAGLE - If Batista wins it will hurt Khali’s gimmick. I got a funny feeling in my stomach that WWE is going to mess this up. Personally I don’t like either man as the champ but their choices are limited. I hope I am wrong on this, but this is the WWE. PICK - Batista
MR. MAL - Bag ‘o veins Batista will likely win this “battle” even though Khali is actually getting over with the claw. They’re just biding time either way until Edge recovers, or Taker returns. PICK - Batista
WWE Championship Match -John Cena defends against Randy Orton
THE EAGLE - This is the hardest match to predict. You have so many factors like Triple H returning, Cena’s title length, and Kennedy getting a push. I think it would be better for Cena to drop the title, but with him getting dominated the last few weeks . . . it could mean he will retain. I’m going to go with the Triple H factor and say. PICK -Randy Orton
MR. MAL - The annointment of Randy Orton come at Summerslam. What’s scary is that he’s actually getting cheered like a faces in many arenas. Cena’s reign has been admirable, and a win here would be extremely surprising. PICK - Randy Orton
