This week I decided that it was about time I created a moment of history on my column: my first Top Five  list, in honor of the latest feature here on WrestlersRamblings.com. Literally in mere minutes while wearing my thinking cap, the names came forth as if in a dream, a vision, a moment of clarity so exact . . . well, you get the idea. Ok then, enough preamble. Let’s make magic, people . . .

TOP FIVE WWE WASTED TALENT

WWE Superstars TNA photos Chris Benoit5. Chris Benoit - The rabid wolverine, Benoit is without a doubt a living legend in the WWE and yet he’s being overlooked at a main event contender. Maybe a move to Raw is on the cards, I don’t know because I don’t work for the WWE or pretend to see the future by looking at leaves or shuffling cards. But what I do know is that he is loved by the fans and should be a heavyweight title contender. There is two ways Benoit’s career could go right now, up or down. He could either be given another chance, on either Smackdown or Raw or become another Ric Flair and waste away to nothing either with the WWE or even to TNA.

4. Carlito - As we reach the half way point, at number four I chose Mr Caribbean Cool, Carlito because in the last four years he’s only achieved two titles in the WWE. I know there’s a few “fansâ€? who think titles aren’t everything but they’re either those couch potato fans that were always picked last for dodgeball or fans of the old ECW, either way you’re wrong. He was kicked off the Wrestlemania card so they could put in Kane vs. Khali instead, and what a great decision that was, right? The reason why Carlito is my mid way choice is because he’s got plenty of time to make the big time, but has to watch his backstage actions. The last thing the WWE fans want is for backstage politics to ruin his career.

3. JBL - The reason I chose JBL so low down is because he counts as two people. Firstly the loss of him on the active roster was huge last year and Smackdown took a while to sort itself out. His mic skills were fantastic and he was the number one heel in the WWE for his title reign. Now he is the most refreshing commentator in the business and is definitely going to be on Raw’s team at some time in the future. It’s no secret that Vince McMahon wants John to go back to competing in the squared circle; he’s already proven in his short time as commentator that he can have as many catchphrases as Good Ol’ J.R. So what I’m saying is that JBL should be made to spearhead the companies commentating alongside J.R on Raw, Or get the self proclaimed Wrestling God back in the ring.

2. RVD - The most famous three letters in professional wrestling (sorry JBL) but it’s true. This time last year all looked good for Rob, twelve months on and he’s in a shadow of ECW and with his contract expiring, unsure of what the future holds. In recent times I believe that the WWE have realized what an asset RVD really is, ok he has a bit of baggage and some previous but in the ring he’s a world class performer. The recent win at Wrestlemania 23 was all done to try to get Rob to stay with the company and not to jump ship to TNA, did it work? Only time will tell, but IF they were smart then Vince and the team would do everything possible to keep him and make him the whole damn show.

1. Shelton Benjamin - I have yet to find anybody who can give a proper reason why Benjamin has fallen down the pecking order and is now below the midcard part of the roster on Raw. Everybody knows about the cockiness of the new guys and the backstage heat on Shelton, but the last two Wrestlemania’s have proven that he deserves his place at the grandest stage of them all. The Money in the Bank Ladder match was created to elevate mid card wrestlers like Shelton to the next level, even with his strong performances in the matches he still gets jobbed off to the tag team division. After a couple WWE Intercontinental title runs and the different gimmicks, maybe it’s time to elevate his career. I think a good move for him is over to Smackdown, with the draft approaching it would be good to see Benjamin somewhere he can shine.

Mr. Mal note: Union of Jack just couldn’t give us five overlooked WWE Superstars - oh no. We love the kid (and hope you do, too) but someone should seriously let him know that, where I’m from, Top Five means, well . . . FIVE! That being said, here’s a few more for your enjoyment. No charge. Just ’cause we like ya.

Honorable mentions: Chris Masters - Now before you completely ignore my first honorable mention just because just about everybody hates this guy and you’re worried that I’m one of his tens of fans, then stop! Because I also hate this guy! But I think there is a lot more use for him then the pointless Masterlock challenge. In the early days he was just what the company needed, and proved how dominating he could be, pretty much like Bobby Lashley is at the moment. He even took part in a main event at New Years Revolution in the elimination chamber match. But what is possibly left for him now? A possible move to ECW? Could be good for him, but it’s a bit like a retirement home for pointless “WWE Superstarsâ€? to show their “skillsâ€?. I think his days could well be numbered and will be released by the end of the year.

Matt Hardy - Unlike number eight, I believe that Hardy’s best days are still ahead of him, if the WWE decide to make the most of his abilities. But me saying that I’m not confident that they will promote him to main event level, for the simple reason that the bald leader, Vincent Kennedy McMahon loves a muscle-bound idiot rather than a great performer. I could write a list longer than my arm of Big, useless, over-rated superstars that the WWE have tried to push and the fans haven’t liked, well actually probably as long as Hornswoggle’s arm. So in conclusion, for now he might be back with his brother holding the tag team gold but let’s all get down on our knee’s and pray for Matt’s future.

wwe Kane photoKane - He’s been around the WWE since 1998 and he’s lost more big matches then any other wrestler on the roster. If that isn’t enough for him to make it into my star studded list, some more proof is the amount of times he’s won the tag team titles just to keep him at a midcard level and to help propel other wrestlers careers. Just recently he gets used to fight other “monsters and has come up short every time. Like with the Umaga storyline and the most recent one, another defeat at Wrestlemania by The Great Khali. He’s still good enough to have a title run, even if it is just the Intercontinental or the United States title, but for now the injury prone monster will probably continue to feud with the big guys.
