WWE Smackdown review: Undertaker returns, eyes gold

Folks, there’s a new sheriff in town and her name is Vickie Guerrero. I am The Eagle and this is your WWE SmackDown review: The show opened up with Vince McMahon informing Vickie that she is now the acting General Manager of SmackDown. My Eagle gut told me this was coming. It’s been in the works ever since she was hired on as an assistant. This could go either way –Â a good story line or more poor writing. Time will tell. McMahon has enlisted the help of Fit Finlay to control Hornswoggle . . . Look likes Torrie Wilson has a stalker (and no its not Mr. Mal as much as he would like to). The truth be told I have no idea who the woman was that attacked Torrie after her loss to Victoria tonight. WWE is stepping up their women’s division and doing a great job of it. The only issue is that the woman’s title is on the RAW brand and you have Victoria on SmackDown. Either they need to merge the women’s division or move all the Diva’s to one brand. Just makes no sense to have a contender like Victoria on SmackDown when she can be competing for the title.
MVP celebrated his one-year anniversary on SmackDown. Matt Hardy decided to join in the fun by putting together a video package for his tag team partner; However, it turned out to be highlights of MVP’s shortcomings over the last year. Hardy then gave MVP a great present by setting him up in a match against Kane . . . Finally, a one on one match between Chuck Palumbo and Kenny Dykstra with no women at ringside. As much as I don’t like Palumbo’s biker-Undertaker rip-off gimmick, the man is talented and if placed in the right feud he can be fun to watch. He totally dominated Dykstra which I am not crazy about because he does talent, but I guess that’s what you get when you tick off the WWE brass . . . It was not a friendly reunion between MVP and Kane. As always these two put on a heck of a match. Some may disagree with me but I think Kane is very talented and deserves another run with the title. Of course in MVP style the US champ got himself DQed with a low blow. I don’t mind having a heel cheat to win but to have them intentionally get DQed especially when they are as talented as MVP is just a waste of time.
The Undertaker has returned, clearly focused on regaining the WWE World Championship, a title he won at Wrestlemania 23 (pictured here)
JBL decided to do a “real” interview with Rey Mysterio. JBL’s smart mouth and shoving earned him a 619 which he had coming since last week. Right before he was “shut up” by Rey he announced that next week the former champ will take on another former champ, The Great Khali. Fit Finlay once again sneaked attacked Rey this time using the old “shillelagh to the head” move . . . In her first controversial move of GM Vickie stripped Hornswoggle of the cruiserweight title. This is probably a good move in the long one. They can have a tournament for the cruiserweight title and begin to rebuild that division . . . After weeks of being taunted by Shannon Moore, Jamie Noble got a chance to act his revenge. Noble got an impressive and quick victory over his former friend. Both these men are a bonus to the cruiserweight division . . .
The Undertaker made his return to SmackDown and made quick work of Mark Henry. It wasn’t the Dead Man’s typical pin. He actually choke slammed the world’s strongest man and seemed even surprised himself. It was the first time in a long time that The Eagle has seen the Undertaker make an actual pin without his usual tongue out ending. After the match he made his intentions clear: he is coming for the gold.
SmackDown results for September 28th
Victoria def. TorrieÂ
Chuck Palumbo def. Kenny DykstraÂ
Kane def. United States Champion MVP (Disqualification)Â
Jamie Noble def. Shannon MooreÂ
Undertaker def. Mark Henry
The Eagle’s Grade -Â B
We are getting there. There was two decent promos with Batista and The Great Khali and all the matches were pretty decent. It should be interesting to see what the new GM has in store for SmackDown’s future.
